About VA Lady Eagles Fast-Pitch Softball Team

Minimize
The Virginia Lady Eagles is a year-round, fast pitch softball organization dedicated to fostering teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership through competition on the playing field. Superior playing skills, academic acumen, respect for other players, and the willingness to learn and excel are the personal traits of the Virginia Lady Eagles players.

We are a non-profit corporation located in Virginia Beach, VA. We field 12 U, 14 U, 16 U, and 18 U travel teams. Our drive for excellence on and off the field results in our seniors going to colleges with some type of athletic or academic scholarships.

Vision Statement

The Virginia Lady Eagles Softball Club is an IRS 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation staffed by parents and volunteers dedicated to fostering teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership through competition on the playing field. Our organization is comprised of talented players from all over Southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina, and it is our objective to assist in developing these traits in each of the young ladies who choose to participate in the program. While superior playing skills are necessary to compete at the regional and national level, they are not the only criteria used in selecting the players. Academic acumen, respect for fellow players and coaches, willingness to learn and a desire to excel are major among the personal traits sought by the team managers and coaches.

Another objective is to place these young ladies in an environment that will showcase their personal, academic and playing skills to colleges and universities seeking players. Whether or not a player continues to compete at the next level, the experience gained through association with the Lady Eagles should help her meet challenges in her future.

A degree of our success can be measured by the fact that all eligible Lady Eagles who wished to do so, have gone on to play softball at the collegiate level.

We believe we can attain these goals in an environment that is enjoyable for all involved.

History

The Virginia Lady Eagles softball organization was founded in 1990 with the goal of helping softball players obtain college scholarships. There were few travel teams back then and opportunities for girls were limited. Our first team was an 18U team that was funded by candy sales and car washes. We grew to two 18U teams and two 16U teams and enjoyed early success, but running four teams was expensive. In order to travel and expose our girls to college coaches, we began raising funds through bingo. Thus, Virginia Lady Eagles, Inc was incorporated in 1995 as a not-for-profit corporation under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

We added more teams and at one point funded Red and Blue 18U teams, Red and Blue 16U teams, a 14U team and a 12U team.

Incorporation required that the organization be run by a Board of Directors. The original Board was composed of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Bingo Chairperson, and Managers from each team.

In 1999, we took our 12U team to NSA Nationals and finished tied for 11th place in a field of over 100 teams. The following year, our 12U team finished 3rd at Pony Nationals. In 2001, both our 12U and 14U teams finished 3rd at Pony Nationals. In 2002, our 14U team finished in 5th place at Pony Nationals, our 16U team finished in 3rd place, and our 18U team co-hosted the ASA “A” Nationals in Salem, Virginia.

Since then, VLE teams have continued to place well in major tournaments, winning several state and regional championships, including a second place finish in the ASA Nationals. VLE has developed the reputation as a well run, well coached organization that produces quality players. We have developed good relationships with colleges and universities that seek players from our organization.
